This page will tell you about:
  • How your cat ages in this setting and how that effects their lives.

  • Mentor and apprentices and how training works

Age Guide
💞For information on romance and how it works here please check out our romance guide.
Please note that this guide does not line up 1 to 1 with our romance guide, this is to reflect significant milestones in a cats life!
2 real life weeks = 1 moon irp.
There are 16 moons in a year in SOTC, and 4 moons in a season typically.

Kit
  • Age: 0-5 moons

Kits are cats too young to be apprentices. They are usually confined to camp, and require close supervision so they don’t get themselves into trouble. Rambunctious kits may sometimes sneak out of camp, but they typically don’t get very far.

We do not allow the creation of kit characters, they must either be adopted via an in roleplay had litter, or created via a server boosting, or charity donation reward.

🐣 — Development Milestones:

  • Newborn kittens have their eyes and ears closed. Their eyes open around a quarter to a half moon and are always blue.

  • At one moon, they can walk and play relatively confidently. They can talk a little in short phrases. Their hearing and eyesight are mostly developed.

  • At two moons, they will be fully or nearly fully weaned. Their adult eye color will have come in. They can speak or sign in short sentences, and can start absorbing clan rules and stories.

  • At three moons onward, they have more control over their bodies, and will start playing more sophisticated “training games” such as practicing hunting on leaves or bugs. As they grow older, they will require less supervision around camp. If the environment is safe, they may even be permitted on short, parent-sanctioned excursions out of camp.

  • Kitten/Apprentice sizes: SOTC tends to lean towards more unrealistic kitten and apprentice sizes given our aging system, to give players more time to play their young cats. Apprentices can reach their full adult height anywhere between 6-18 moons depending on player preference.

Apprentice
  • Age: 6-18 moons

Apprentices are adolescent cats on the path to become warriors (or healers). Toward the beginning, they will mostly be training with their mentors, either one on one or in larger groups. Toward the end of their apprenticeship, they are assigned more often to patrols without their mentor present, or on simple missions with other apprentices. More details on apprentice training in our server can be found at the bottom of this page.

Young Adult Warrior
  • Age: 18-30 moons

A warrior at this age is considered a full adult by the clan, but they may not be given as much responsibility as an older warrior. Young warriors may have a tendency to make impulsive decisions that a more experienced cat would not.

Adult Warrior
  • Age: 31-60 moons

A warrior in their prime! Warriors are ready to gain their first apprentices around 25-30 moons; though not every cat gets an apprentice in their lifetime. At this stage of their life a cat typically has begun to feel more confident in their role as a warrior and an adult, their rash apprentice-hood decision making typically trails off around this age. There are some cats though who never do grow out of that mindset.

Middle-Aged Warrior
  • Age: 61-100 moons

This is a seasoned warrior. Not old, not yet anyway. Though they may be slowing down a bit, but their experience makes them a highly respected member of the clan. Cats can start considering retirement at any point after this age bracket. Unless a serious injury or ailment is involved.

Senior Warrior
  • Age: 101-150 moons

Warriors can retire at any point after 100 moons depending on their condition and if they have received a severe injury, with most cats not choosing to retire until they are 100 moons or older.

Elder
  • Age: for most, 151+ moons

Elders may choose to leave camp to hunt, gather herbs, etc on an individual basis. They do not typically join formal patrols but its not unheard of! Otherwise, their job is to hang around camp, advise younger cats, help watch kits, and generally hold the clan together as the family it is!

Apprenticeship & Mentor Guidelines
Mentors and apprentices are a fun dynamic to explore in your roleplays! We have some guidelines and rules regarding these interactions to help your cat’s journey from inexperienced ‘paw to capable warrior a smooth one! If you plan to become a mentor, or are an apprentice, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the rules below!
  1. Apprentices are required to complete 3 Hunting training sessions, 3 Brawling training sessions, and 3 training sessions of any skill. When these are completed, there will be one final assessment.

  2. Mentors are required to RP with their apprentices at least once every two weeks. If this is not met, either player can reach out to their clan mods privately to be reassigned.

  3. If you have not completed any mentor/apprentice training within a month, the mods of your clan have the authority to reassign apprentices/mentors as they see fit.

  4. A Training thread should include a minimum of 3 posts each, with the mentor/teacher showing the apprentice how to do something or giving advice in at least one post. Just taking your apprentice out on a patrol doesn’t count. If the apprentice fails in their attempt to do the Skill they are learning, the mentor/teacher can give instruction in their post, and that will grant the apprentice advantage for their next roll in that skill. (If the thread involves fighting another Clan, this cannot be used.)

  5. A non-mentor training an apprentice still counts, and the above training rules still apply in this case! You can find people to RP with as a mentor or an apprentice by utilizing the @📋 Mentor/Teacher 📋 OR @✏️ Apprentice ✏️

  6. After each training session, the RP log must include if an apprentice was trained, who trained them, and which skill was trained, otherwise it won’t be counted.

  7. Once all training sessions have been completed, the final assessment will be held!

  8. When your apprentice is eligible for their final assessment, please ping your leader or deputy to discuss when the assessments can be held. Final assessments will be determined by your clan leader and mentor, they may not always be the same tasks!

  9. Leaders can delay apprentice assessments and ceremonies as needed, and a failed assessment can be retried after 1 real life week.

  10. Any cat that reaches 20+ moons will be forced to graduate with their current skill set.

  11. In order to graduate, a Healer apprentice must complete three healing trainings, three gathering trainings, and three trainings of other skills. They must be 20 moons old and must also receive approval from the healer(s) of their Clans to be promoted.

  12. If a cat becomes a Healer apprentice at 20+ moons they much have Great healing and must have completed 8 weeks or more of HR requirements to become a full Healer. These requirements would include.:

    • 3 weeks with a Clanmate check-in

    • 2 weeks with posting an herb announcement

    • 3 weeks with a healing or gathering training.

  • If multiple of these things are done in a week, only one may count towards the graduation requirements. If the mentor(s) feel as though the apprentice is only doing the bare minimum or needs further evaluation, the time before graduating may be extended and the requirements for that extra time may be discussed.
